Born in 1960 in
Barcelona (Spain) into a German-French family. Moving back to
Germany, he studied with S. Gawriloff in Essen. S. Gheorghiu and R.
Nodel were his teachers in Bucharest (Roumania) and Mannheim
(Germany).In 1984 he won the International Maria Canals Violin
Competition of Barcelona and the German National Music Competition
and has since developed an extensive international career. He
appears regularly as a soloist with major symphony and chamber
orchestras, and participates in prestigious international festivals.
He is a member of the Michelangelo Quartet and the Mendelssohn Trio
Berlin.
Since
1995 Stephan Picard has served as a professor
and is currently chairman of the string department at the highly
acclaimed Academy of Music „Hans Eisler“ in Berlin.
