Hungarian of birth, Ferenc
Bokany has served as a principal bass player in many major
orchestras, such as the Norwegian Opera, the Dutch Radio Orchestra,
the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber
Orchestra, his predecessor there being Mr. Duncan McTier with whom
he also performed within the framework of the Paganini Ensemble. He
has been the principal bass player of Orchestre National de Lyon
since 1992 and is a regular solo bass player of OEK, Japan. In the
early eighties, Ferenc Bokany succeeded the late Lajos Montag at the
Tibor Varga Summer Academy. He has performed as a soloist with
numerous ensembles, among others Royal Swedish Chamber Orchestra and
the Detmold Chamber Orchestra. Ferenc Bokany was a close
collaborator of the late Tibor Varga and served as the bass player
of his chamber orchestra for almost thirty years. In the field of
chamber music, Ferenc Bokany has performed with many of the world's
top musicians. His enormous experience has benefitted students who
are now professionals in many of Europe's finest orchestras. Being a
highly successful jazzman, Ferenc Bokany has also formed students
who are active in the field of jazz and "light music". He teaches
both the French and German bow technique and concentrates his
teaching on the preparation for orchestra auditions. His
